What is Recycled PET?
Recycled polyethylene terephthalate is known as RPET, and it is the most widely recycled plastic in the world. The use of recycled PET in place of virgin resin typically results in reduced energy consumption, lower cost, and reduced environmental impact.
Why do we use recycled PET?
You may wonder why we use recycled PET, instead of normal polyester which is a more readily available in bulk and at a much cheaper price.
Simple. The ever increasing consumption of single-use plastic items, which contaminates our soil and water, imposes serious risk for our health and disastrous global consequences for our planet.
People are willing to pay for the value behind the products. It's not only buying of a RPET bag but also the donation to the environment and children's future.
Where is our recycled polyester PET material from?
Imagine the water bottles that you have just thrown away, they are called 'post-consumer' plastics. All these bottles that end up in our local waste collection companies and local waste management organizations will in time become a part of our products.
These companies collect, classify the bottles and later wash, dry and crush them so that these recycled materials can be transformed into yarns to create fabrics with which to make bags, footwear, accessories and clothing.
We use these recycled materials to make Rivta's high quality recycled PET polyester weaved fabrics, to support sustainability and at the same time our local community. We wish to grow and help our local recycling companies to thrive too.
We sometimes also develop and design fabrics together with our local weavers with the belief that creativity can come from small scale productions too. The fun of creating and having a piece of material that is developed by us with the aim of helping the planet is our passion.
Our source of supply is China based and therefore all materials are traceable and duly certified.
At Rivta, this is how the PET bottles are transformed into our brand-new bags:
